Jainendra was an influential Hindi writer of the twentieth century, and is known for his nuanced exploration of the human psyche. Along with Premchand he established the Hindustaani Sabha in Lahore and after Premchand’s death he became the editor of the prestigious literary magazine Hans. Jainendra received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1966 and the Padma Bhushan in 1971.
