In simple terms, an eBook is ‘an electronic version of the printed book’. ‘EBook’ is a generic term that defines a text-based digital publication readable on dedicated devices.

Short for ‘electronic publication’, the epub is an actual file format (like .pdf, .jpg). As an open standard, it has great compatibility across a wide range of eReaders and has become the de facto universal standard. It means our eBooks in this format can be read on a wide variety of eReaders like Amazon’s Kindle (after converting it into .mobi/.prc file), Apple’s iPad, Barnes and Noble’s NOOK and the Sony Reader. It can also be read on a desktop using Adobe Digital Editions or an Online/Web Browser Readers like ibis Reader, Bookworm and EPUBReader.

PBI is selling eBooks abroad through Penguin UK. Penguin India's books will be available through the partners Penguin UK has contracts with viz, Amazon, Apple, Kobo, Google, Sony, OLF SA, OverDrive, Txtr, EBooks.com, IGroup, Apabi, Baker and Taylor, Gardners, Go Spoken/Mobcast.
