Dorling Kindersley India is looking for suitable candidates for the following vacancies in Delhi:

 

Editors/ Sr. Editor, General Books Division, DK India. Applicants should:

  • Be a Post-graduates with at least 2 years of relevant experience for Editor and a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience for Sr. Editor, preferably in the publishing industry or related fields
  • Be accurate on-screen English-language editors and proofreaders with the ability to multitask
  • Cope well with managing high workloads, tight deadlines and working as part of a diverse team
  • Be well-versed in publishing softwares (such as InDesign) and have an aptitude and enthusiasm for learning new technologies.
 

Designer/ Sr. Designer, General Books Division, DK India. Applicants should:

  • Have a degree/ diploma in Graphic Design from a reputed institute/ university
  • The applicant should be interested in publication design – books, brochures, jackets, etc.
  • The portfolio should reflect or have work related to graphic or publication design.
  • Well versed in design related software
  • Have good communication skills and plenty of initiative, plus attention to detail
  • Have at least 2 years of work experience (for Designer) and a minimum of 4 years of experience (for Sr. Designer), preferably in publishing, or in a related field.
 

DTP Operator/ DTP Designer, General Books Division, DK India Applicants should:

  • Have a degree/diploma from a reputed Institute
  • A good level of page layout knowledge
  • Be well versed with design packages such as InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Experience in hi-resolution workflow/ pre-press/ colour assessment, correction and hi-res image manipulation
  • Good verbal and written communication
  • Have 3-6 years of relevant experience in the publishing industry

Asst XML Editors, Digital Media Division. The candidates should:

  • Be graduates/post graduates with 2-3 years of relevant working experience.
  • Be fast, on-screen English-language editors and proof readers.
  • Be able to cope well with managing high workloads, tight deadlines and working as part of a diverse team.
  • Have an aptitude and enthusiasm for learning new technologies.
  • A working knowledge of XML and/or HTML and experience with a publishing conversion house would be an added advantage for these roles.
  • Tech-savvy freshers with excellent written and verbal English communication skills may also apply.

Manager Design – Penguin Books India

A. KRA’s

  • To design approx six Penguin/Puffin titles per month.
  • To keep track of the schedule and ensure that books are not delayed.
  • To liaise with editors, production department, freelance illustrators, designers, typesetters and photographers.
  • To be responsible for and manage the design requirements of a segment of the publishing programme.
  • To supervise/design picture books.
  • To design posters, catalogue, brochures and other promotional material as required.

B. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • To ensure that deadlines are always met where cover and text design are concerned.
  • To maintain high standards of design.
  • To liaise with the production department in order to ensure that the look and finish of Penguin India titles is excellent at all times of the project to ensure that target dates are met

JOB REQUIREMENTS/ENTRY CRITERIA

  • Art/Design degree from a recognized art institute
  • A minimum of 6-8 years work experience in related fields
  • Ability to work on systems and fully conversant with In Design, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and other graphic design software.
  • Ability to work on one’s own initiative.
  • Ability to translate cover briefs/design briefs into excellent and imaginative design.
  • Ability to liaise with other departments—editorial/production—within the company.
  • Should have excellent contacts with illustrators, designers, photographers etc.
