Chidananda Das Gupta is the co-founder of the Calcutta Film Societyand the founder of the Federation of Film Societies of India.
An authority on cinema, Chidananda Das Gupta has spoken onthe subject at diverse forums and has written articles in variouscelebrated journals. He has been editor of the Indian Film Reviewand the Indian Film Culture. He is the author of Talking aboutFilms, The Painted Face: Studies in India.s Popular Cinema andThe Cinema of Satyajit Ray and other books. He directed theacclaimed feature film Bilet Pherat (1972) and a number ofdocumentaries, including Portrait of a City (1961) and The Danceof Shiva (1968). He was honoured with a Lifetime AchievementAward at the Osian Film Festival, 2004.
